Abstract

Kidney disease is a highly morbid condition that results in significant impairment in the quality of life for affected individuals. Treatment options are limited and include hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and kidney transplantation, with the latter being the superior treatment modality. While kidney transplantation is preferred, complications can arise in the postoperative period requiring additional interventions. These complications include urine leak, ureteral strictures, obstruction, renal artery stenosis, and rejection. Urine leak is the most common complication with management ranging from conservative with external urinary drainage, minimally invasive with ureteral stents, or invasive with surgical intervention. We present a case of a urine leak after a kidney transplant requiring additional procedural interventions and re-operation for definitive repair.
