Abstract

Allergen immunotherapy is a cornerstone of therapy for the practice of allergy and immunology. It is important to understand the selection of patients, indications, and contraindications for immunotherapy. It is also increasingly important to recognize similarities and differences between subcutaneous and sublingual immunotherapy. Developing the knowledge of the risks and benefits of immunotherapy is central to effectively engage patients in shared decision-making. When initiating immunotherapy, it is essential to gain expertise in the selection of appropriate antigens and to utilize them in effective doses and combinations. Familiarity with dosing schedules, intervals and duration can improve the likelihood of safe and effective therapy.
