Abstract
The Dark Triad traits are characterised by a callousness, antagonistic, and a norm-violating core, and on their own they are linked to a sense of entitlement and grandiosity (i.e., narcissism), impulsivity and callousness (i.e., psychopathy), and manipulativeness and cynicism (i.e., Machiavellianism). Individuals characterised by these traits might be willing to engage in contract cheating, seeing that it aligns with their personal benefits, involves breaking the rules, and is a useful strategy to deal with tasks they cannot or do not want to complete. In this chapter, we present theoretical perspectives explaining why and how the Dark Triad traits might predict contract cheating. By exploring these approaches, we provide a useful framework for choosing intervention tactics to deal with contract cheating.
