Notes
- 1.
Which may after all be construed as a matter of greater pursuit worthiness than its alternatives so that it becomes a matter of prudence that some research be conducted on the less pursuit worthy alternatives.
- 2.
- 3.
For an extended analysis of where to draw the line when it comes to specifying what existing standards are to be taken into account when deciding pursuit worthiness see Shaw (2022).
- 4.
While Laudan tends to speak of “research traditions” we think “research program” has a forward-looking connotation that better captures the sense of what’s involved when deciding to pursue a promising theoretical or experimental development.
