Abstract
The hip joint is a congruent ball-and-socket joint with multiple structures crossing and originating around the joint at different planes. These characteristics compounded by the depth of the anatomic region present a challenging target for ultrasound scanning.
In this chapter we provide a standardized and detailed approach to a complete examination of the major structures in the hip anatomic region that will be divided into anterior, lateral, medial, and posterior regions. The major structures in each region are described alongside the recommended patient, examiner, and probe positioning.
