Sports Medicine and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Abstract

The wrist and hand, with the multitude of small bones and surrounding tendons and structures, the superficial location, and the value of dynamic examination constitute a perfect target for ultrasonographic examination. In this chapter we provide a standardized and detailed approach to a complete examination of the majority of structures in the hand and wrist anatomic region that will be divided into volar wrist and hand, ulnar wrist, radial wrist, and dorsal wrist and hand. The major structures in each region are described alongside the recommended patient, examiner, and probe positioning.
