Abstract

The teachers’ guide is meant to provide insight and answers to a set of questions associated with each chapter of the Terminology and Terminological Systems Textbook. We have crafted these questions so that in addition to assessing knowledge we can provide a different teaching perspective than is given in the textbook. Students that have an understanding of the material in this textbook will have a strong background in health terminologies and when combined with experience will prepare them for a career in Health Informatics with a concentration in Health Terminologies. The questions are a reflection of the material in each chapter and concentrate on making the reader comfortable with the concepts and language used in the field. We want the students to have an understanding of the major concepts in the discipline of health terminologies, and we want the students to understand the relationship between health terminology theory and practice and the implementations of health terminologies and terminological systems. Lastly, it is our goal that students understand the relationship between the discipline of health terminologies and other disciplines within the field of Health Informatics. This will provide students whose interest and concentration are in other areas of Health Informatics with the knowledge to understand when they need to refer a matter to a Health Terminology Sub-Specialist. Together this textbook provides readers of all levels and interests with a background in Health Terminologies sufficient to accomplish their educational goals.
