Abstract

There are many models that are suitable for mapping health. In the Lalonde model, the starting point is health, not disease. In this model, health is the core and the determinants of health have an influence on health. The endogenous determinants (internal environment or human biology) are important in the Lalonde model, but also the health determinants lifestyle and behavior, the exogenous determinants (physical environment, social environment), and the health determinant with medical care (health organization) and prevention. The main novelty was the inclusion of lifestyle and behavior, which have an influence on health and health problems. In addition, more attention is paid to environmental factors in the physical and social environment. The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) is another model for mapping health that looks at health from a biopsychosocial perspective. The ICF is used as a planning tool for decision-making in health care. Other models can also be used to map health, such as the International Classification of Diseases (ICD), the conceptual model of public health, the VTV model, and the well-known chronic care model. All of these models look at health at the group level.
