Abstract
Coconut water has traditionally been consumed as a refreshing drink in many of coconut producing countries. Growing consumer interest in the product, both as a refreshing beverage and as a sports drink, has considerably broadened its market opportunities. It is very essential to have a standard in place that will allow manufacturers and processors to produce the coconut water in a standardized manner to ensure that all final products are of high standard, high quality and safe for human consumption. This chapter elaborates the coconut water standards developed by different countries and being followed by the manufacturers: The Codex Alimentarius standard, Guyana National Bureau of Standards, European Fruit Juice Association, Jamaican standard, Indian standard, the Philippine National Standard, The CARICOM Regional Code of Practice for Packaged Natural Coconut Water as well as Thailand Standard.
