Abstract
Tic disorders are the most common movement disorders in a pediatric practice. Moreover, tic disorders are frequently associated with comorbid neuropsychiatric symptoms. Therefore, understanding tic disorders is vital for general practitioners who are likely to encounter these conditions in their practice. However, misunderstanding and misconceptions regarding tic disorders still exist not only among the general population but also among health care providers. This article aims to provide an overview about tics and tic disorders, and recent information on tic disorders including salient historical aspects the physician must elicit, diagnosis, epidemiology, etiology, diagnostic approach, comorbidities, management, and differential diagnosis.
