How Eating Development Can Get Stuck

  • Chapter
  • First Online:

Abstract

Obstacles during eating development are numerous and diverse in their nature. Genetic dispositions, medical diagnosis and endured procedures, parent-infant relationship issues, as well as appetite or motivation problems are only a few of the diverse range of influencing variables. Every child takes its own path, every parent reacts to its child differently, and medical institutions encounter these problems with different cultures, styles, and guidelines in different countries. When approaching a child suffering from any kind of early eating problems, an unbiased observation is helpful. Additional information may be acquired and might be useful but may also blur the vision of the professional. Only when a working diagnosis is made, more information may be useful to support the hypothesis. Personal opinions and prejudices are not helpful.
