Abstract

This chapter deals with microorganisms, namely bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites and are responsible for a large number of infectious diseases in humans. Tropical and developing countries are affected more by infectious diseases than the developed countries. Diseases such as tuberculosis, leprosy, typhoid fever, cholera, measles, pertussis, malaria, amoebiasis, pneumonia, etc. still continue to be the major health problems in the developing countries.
