Abstract

The pancreas is composed of two anatomically discrete sets of cells, each with distinct functions. The exocrine pancreas, which makes up the bulk of the organs, produces enzymes that are essential for digestion. The endocrine pancreas, which consists of the islets of Langerhans, is the source of insulin and other hormones. In this chapter we will consider the inflammatory and neoplastic diseases of the pancreas.
