Abstract
In this chapter we shall review some results on extreme points, points of differentiability, farthest points and norm-attaining operators. All those concepts are related, and play an important rôle in the geometry of a Banach space. We chose to approach them chronologically as they came in history. Then we shall present some basic facts on Asplund spaces. The topic of Variational Principles will cover Ekeland’s and some variants, the Smooth Variational Principle and the Compact one.
