Absolute Breast Imaging Review

Abstract

This chapter provides a case-based review of fundamental principles of breast pathologies seen on diagnostic mammography and ultrasound. Topics include:

  • Appropriate mammographic views for diagnostic work-up.

  • Symptom-based diagnostic work-up, including palpable masses, nipple discharge, skin changes, and pain.

  • Finding-based diagnostic work-up, including calcifications, masses, asymmetries, architectural distortion, and axillary lymphadenopathy.

  • Overview of benign, high-risk, and malignant breast diseases.

Upon completion of these questions, readers should obtain a comprehensive understanding of diagnostic mammographic and ultrasound evaluation of benign and pathologic breast conditions for both board preparation and clinical practice.
