Abstract
Running an efficient operating room has a number of advantages including cost, reduced stress, and additional time. Be early and present in the operating room and spend time orienting the staff to the case and checking equipment. During the case, be proactive, communicative, and forward thinking. Tracking your complications and outcomes and comparing these to national metrics are important to efficiency and quality. Operating room efficiency directly reflects on the triple aim of patient care including lower cost, outstanding care, and patient safety. By establishing these behaviors and expectations early, these practices will pay dividends in productivity and satisfaction for years to come.
