Abstract
The concept of a dedicated center for the management of patients with acute chest pain was first developed decades ago. Chest pain centers vary widely in their size, scope, staffing models, triage approaches, testing models, and other characteristics. These differences typically reflect the unique needs and resources of individual facilities. Because chest pain centers are often built and modified based primarily on local conditions, having an assessment performed by an external audience can substantially improve processes and outcomes of care. In this chapter, we explore models of external accreditation for chest pain centers and how they may help facilities to achieve better outcomes for their patients.
