Abstract

The Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) is a time-tested service model that began in the 1970s. The primary purpose was to serve frail, nursing-home eligible older adults in the community to allow them to age in place. The original PACE site, On Lok in San Francisco, underwent intense scrutiny, followed by waves of demonstrations and, ultimately, broad acceptance as a CMS-recognized permanent provider of services. PACE has expanded to many states in the United States and is a premier example of community-based integrated care.
