Abstract

Information systems are a means to an end. Organizations adopt them to bring about desired change. In this sense, organizational change is the rationale for implementing information systems, and implementation success is about accomplishing the desired change. At the same time, the organizational response to an information system after go-live gradually reshapes what changes the organization sees as possible and desirable. This response depends on the system as well as on how the organization deals with change. That is, organizational change is also the context—not only the rationale—for implementing information systems.
