Abstract

People wanting to reduce their dependency on information technology can, for a large sum, pay to stay at an exclusive resort in the Costa Rican rainforest designed for people to vacation without using technology. The rainforest resort is far off the grid. This is a hefty price to pay for taking a break from using digital media. However, itt is not the only such resort available. Digital detox resorts have sprouted up in locations from the Samburu reserve in Kenya to the Trans-Himalaya to the Gobi desert in Mongolia. It is ironic that there is now a business market for digital-free vacations—paying to relinquish access to digital devices and information.
