Abstract

Distributed collaborations to support scientific research have become very common in the past couple of decades. Starting with the early calls for “collaboratories” (Wulf, 1993), the community has embraced this concept and initiated numerous such projects in a wide variety of fields. We decided some time ago to track these developments and create a database of such projects. We now know that there are literally hundreds of them.
