Abstract
5Modern hardware such as flash storage promises higher performance than traditional hardware such as rotating magnetic disks. However, it also introduces its own issues such as relatively high write costs and limited endurance. Techniques such as log-structured file systems and write-optimized b-trees [G 04] might reduce the effects of high write costs and wear leveling might delay the onset of reliability problems. Nonetheless, when failures do occur, they must be identified and repaired.
