Abstract

We show some simulation examples of different ellipse fitting methods described in Chapters 1–3 and do statistical accuracy evaluation, repeating a large number of trials using different artificial noise. We also see some real image examples. Next, we show how the RANSAC procedure described in Chapter 4 can robustly fit an ellipse to edge segments that contain non-elliptic parts. We then see how the ellipse-specific methods described in Chapter 4 enforce the fit to be an ellipse in the presence of large noise and conclude that they do not have much practical value. Finally, we show some application examples of the ellipse-based 3-D computation described in Chapter 5.
