Robotic-Assisted Video Endoscopic Inguinal Lymphadenectomy (R-VEIL) Technique and Outcomes for Penile Cancer

Abstract

Penile cancer is a rare urologic neoplasm and usually occurs in patients from developing countries. The radical resection of the inguinal metastasis in this population is still the standard treatment and a relevant predictor of cancer survival. In this scenario, open inguinal lymphadenectomy for penile cancer has been performed for years to control the metastatic dissemination to lymph nodes. However, the advent of robotic surgery and its potential minimally invasive advantages provided a novel approach to inguinal lymphadenectomy. In this chapter, we described the current scenario of robotic-assisted video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (R-VEIL) in patients with penile cancer and inguinal metastasis.
