Abstract
In JSVMR 2 Aristotle begins his investigation of the bodily location of the soul by setting up his working model: the body of complete animals. The middle of the body is here qualified in connection with the physiology and bodily articulation of these animals. Complete animals exhibit a clear articulation into three sections related to the nutritive process. The principle of the nutritive and perceptive soul is situated in the middle of these three sections on the basis of empirical evidence: some animals and plants are able to live when they are divided, thanks to their middle part.
