Research Methods in Dentistry

Abstract

Doing research and advancing dental science involve a complex decision-making process that can be done with the help of the design cycle. Practical research cannot proceed based on trial and error. After choosing a research topic for purposeful research, a systematic approach called the “design cycle” should be used to achieve a result that could ultimately be applicable in the clinic. The purpose of the design cycle, which is established in the problem-solving method, is to create and evaluate solutions against challenges. The advantage of the design cycle is that the researcher makes decisions based on the analysis of facts from the beginning. The end of each design cycle leads to new questions and suggestions for further research and the start of a new design cycle. The design cycle trains researchers to look at the big picture of research. The key is to know that practical research takes time, and you may have to be engaged in the design cycle repeatedly to get the appropriate answer.
