Abstract
This chapter discusses what the book means by music transformations. It orients the discussion towards melody and harmony, and that music transformations preserve music features and musical cohesion. An outline is presented of music transforms with each briefly described and lists those that require a constraint engine and those that do not. After touching briefly on machine learning approaches to transformation, the chapter sets the stage for the second part of the text.
