Decision Factor Based Modified AODV for Improvement of Routing Performance in MANET

Abstract

Routing in Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) suffers from route failure issue. Major causes of failure are unstable link, low battery power of participating nodes and frequent topological changes which further leads to performance degradation of routing protocol in terms of packet delivery ratio, delay and routing overheads. Therefore, to overcome from these consequences, a new mechanism is proposed namely Modified AODV (Mo-AODV) which selects the path on the basis of Decision Factor (DF) metric. The DF is estimated by considering received signal power and node’s residual energy. Further, a node updates its neighbourhood information on the basis of neighbors’ energy level through hello message. Simulation results prove that the proposed approach gives better output in terms of packet delivery ratio, delay, normalized routing load, throughput and control message overhead.
