Abstract
Training programs in counselor education have just started to critically examine the ways students navigate their personal and professional environments from a biased worldview. In an effort to support student development, counselor preparation programs should challenge students to examine their potentially racist beliefs, introduce antiracist practices, provide remediation as needed, and connect students to community resources. This chapter will outline program practices designed to cultivate professional counselors such as: incorporating antiracist strategies into graduate programming, refining advocacy efforts for professional practice, and developing and sustaining community connections through a multi-pronged approach.
