Abstract

While there is much interest in how dietary and nutritional factors contribute to gastrointestinal cancer risk, definitive data is still lacking due to limitations in study design and research funding. Despite these shortcomings, favorable and unfavorable dietary and nutritional patterns have been correlated with malignancy outcomes. In this chapter, we will summarize potential nutritional and obesity factors associated with gastrointestinal malignancies. The chapter will also discuss nutritional considerations in patients who have gastrointestinal cancer.
