Abstract

Urinary diversion from the suture line in hypospadias surgery has been a standard routine to reduce tissue reaction, permit suture line to become watertight, and provide patient comfort. Forms of urinary diversion include open or percutaneous-suprapubic cystostomy, perineal urethrotomy, transurethral catheter drainage of the bladder, and urethral stenting. The tendency is to use silicone stents because it is more convenient and the operation is performed as an ambulant surgery in many centers.
