Abstract

Careful attention to the basic principles of plastic surgery is paramount for satisfactory outcome in hypospadias surgery. Flaps by definition have better blood supply and may grow better than grafts. Grafts are less likely to develop diverticulum. Flaps used in hypospadias surgery are usually random or axial flaps. Grafts used in hypospadias surgery are usually full thickness from the prepuce, the mouth cavity, behind the ear, or the groin. Z-plasty is commonly used at the penoscrotal junction to elongate the ventral side of the penis and reduce the chance of contracture.
