Abstract
The incidence of gynaecologic cancers is rising all over the world. The cancer delivery care in United Kingdom was restructured following the Calman-Hine report in 1995 and referral pathways with stipulated times frames were established. Once a patient is referred to a specialist gynae oncologist, the patient undergoes a detailed history and physical assessment, nutritional assessment, genetic and psychosocial assessment. Relevant hematological and radiological investigations are advised. The cases are then discussed in multidisciplinary (MDT) team meetings for their treatment based on the available scientific evidence. Recommendations for treatments made in the meetings are then discussed with the patients and directly influence the decision-making process between patients and their clinician. Management of every individual warrants a holistic approach, in which besides diagnosis and treatment of cancers, psychological and social support is extremely vital, to ensure both physical and mental well being of the patient. In this era of diagnostics, the art of detailed history and physical examination should not be forgotten and investigations should be chosen wisely according to the disease.
