Abstract

The development of intercultural communication of future engineers is determined by the emerging new types of international scientific and technical relations, such as the exchange of scientific and technical information, research and production corporations, international engineering, transfer of specialists and scientists. Therefore, with the development of modern economic cooperation forms, the need for specialists owning new communication capabilities increases.

The purpose of the study is to identify the linguistic, psychological and socio-cultural aspects of organization an overseas study tour, to analyze peculiarities of the intercultural communication development among students of an engineering university in the framework of organizing a overseas study tour, to offer ready-made organizational solutions and a model of preparatory measures for preparing a trip of this type.

The study is based on theoretical (analysis of psychological, pedagogical, sociological literature, normative documentation and products of students’ educational activities) and empirical research methods (observation, questioning) to study the potential of organizing an overseas study tour in order to develop intercultural communication among students of an engineering university. During the study, students were involved in all stages of organizing the overseas study tour, during which they showed their readiness for written and oral intercultural communication, qualitatively improved their personal skills and strengthened the level of language training.

The study found that the role and importance of intercultural communication among students of an engineering university is presently increasing. Its development is largely facilitated by overseas study tours and individual experience of independent decision-making on a wide range of issues related to their organization.
