Abstract
Essentials for treatment of thyroid pathology in low and middle income countries (LMIC)include: sufficient knowledge of local epidemiology, cultural sensitivity, patient history and cervical ultrasonography. Shortterm surgical missions in LMIC should only be performed when qualitative aftercare is available, treatment outcomes are reported and there is an objective to extend surgical facilities for local healthcare systems.
