Clinical Cases in Pediatric Skin Cancers

Abstract

Juvenile xanthogranuloma is a relatively uncommon non-Langerhans cell histiocytosis but represents the most common form of these disorders in the childhood.

We present the case of a 3-year-old female with a yellowish-orange nodular lesion on the chest whose clinical, histological and immunohistochemical findings allowed the diagnosis of juvenile xanthogranuloma.

It affects predominantly the skin where solitary or multiple yellowish-orange papules or nodules can appear. Extra-cutaneous involvement is more common when multiple lesions are present and the eye represents the most affected site.

Conservative management is the treatment of choice for the limited forms, nevertheless excision may be considered due to functional or diagnostic reasons also in children.
