Abstract
Scalp lesions in elderly people are highly suspicious of non-melanoma skin cancer. Diagnostic biopsy is strongly recommended in unclear cases. One of the lesions mimicking squamous cell carcinoma of skin (SCC) is chronic atrophic dermatosis of the scalp. Topical treatment with antibiotics and corticosteroids may be used, but in recalcitrant cases, surgery is recommended, since longstanding wounds can transform into malignancies (e.g. Marjolin ulcer).
