Abstract

The use of laparoscopy and the number of physicians trained to perform laparoscopy are in an increasing trend. Laparoscopy-related complications are seen in 0.1–10% of cases, with 50% occurring during abdominal entry. It is estimated that 1:4 of complications are not recognized intraoperatively. A laparoscopic complication is defined as any undesirable result that would have not occurred if the surgery went as desired. In this chapter, we describe the most commonly encountered laparoscopic complications including their diagnosis and treatment.
