Abstract

This chapter reviews the indications, limitations, and interpretations of an extracranial cerebrovascular duplex exam. It discusses how to prepare the patient and perform the ultrasound. It also addresses the clinical utility of the duplex in the evaluation of subclavian artery, vertebral artery, and carotid artery system. The correlation between severity of stenosis and severity of disease is also reviewed.
