Abstract
This chapter presents the background, development, and description of a new instrument (the Higher Education Trauma Resilience Assessment (HETRA) to measure the degree to which higher education settings incorporate trauma resilient practices in their curricula and day-to-day operations. To date, there are no instruments that measure trauma-informed care implementation explicitly through a resilience lens in higher education settings. The HETRA was developed by modifying the Organizational Trauma Resilience Assessment (OTRA), which was chosen as the base instrument because it is a rigorously developed and psychometrically-sound instrument that measures TIC through a resilience lens. The current and future use of the HETRA are discussed.

The OTRA showed strong reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha coefficients ranging from .875 to 974 for sub-scales and .974 for the total scale, and strong validity with mean corrected item total correlation scores ranging from .694 to 780 for sub-scales and .682 for the total scale. The overall scale showed strong discriminant validity, indicating each of the sub-scales measured related but different constructs (Brown et al., 2021).
