Abstract
A companion to Learning from the Stones. In addition to the in-depth introduction of weiqi for Western audiences, this analysis expands to include the concept of “ko” from weiqi—a bargaining play not available in other competitive games. The influence of ko on Chinese strategic thinking and tactics is profound yet still largely unknown to American leaders. Comparisons and contrasts of Eastern and Western strategic thinking and operational art as influenced by weiqi, chess, and poker provide especially significant insights.
