Abstract
The knowledge of the sectional anatomy of the thoracic cavity is of great importance for the understanding of respective pathologies, congenital anomalies, surgery, and radiological images such as computerized tomography and magnetic resonance images. In this chapter, we will discuss the main aspects of the division of the mediastinum and the relationships of lungs, heart, esophagus, and great vessels and, when possible, associate them with main radiologic images and pathologies that affect this important region. The objective is to present the sectional anatomy of the thoracic cavity and its association with radiologic images and, most importantly, traumatic, tumoral, and infectious conditions and congenital anomalies of this region.
