Abstract
Trichopsychodermatology or psychotrichology is a relatively newer subspecialty of psychodermatology, dealing with the psychiatric aspects of hair disease. Multiple hair disorders, particularly related to loss of hair, are associated with significant psychosocial comorbidity, low self-esteem, and avoidance behaviors. Patients with hair disorders often report a low quality of life and face increased levels of depression, anxiety, and associated psychosocial maladjustment. The treatment of psychotrichological disorders focuses on the role of stress on hair loss and improving quality of life. This chapter explains most common psychotrichological disorders and the role of stress and management options.
