Abstract
This chapter sets out the operation of the original Domestic Abuse Disclosure Scheme, or ‘Clare’s Law’, as it developed in England and Wales. Other sections of this chapter address the way that this book uses legal analysis combined with policy and regulatory analyses to produce an approach to researching Domestic Abuse Disclosure Schemes, informed by data collected through freedom-of-information requests to public bodies in the UK. This chapter also presents core statistics on the growth of the police use of ‘Clare’s Law’ in England and Wales at a time when other more fundamental means of tackling domestic abuse have been on the decline.
