Abstract

Echocardiography is critically important to cardiovascular diagnostics. In addition to transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), intracardiac echocardiography is a newer subtype frequently used for intra-procedural guidance. Echocardiography utilizes multiple views for imaging of the ventricles, valves, aorta, and pericardium and allows for evaluation of cardiac function. Additional modalities such as Doppler and M-mode provide further information to evaluate blood flow velocities and cardiac motion, respectively. Newer modalities such as 3D echocardiography continue to inform the field.
