Regional Nerve Blocks in Anesthesia and Pain Therapy

Abstract

Since many years, neuraxial analgesia and anesthesia have a major role in the management of obstetric patients. It is a dynamic concept which is still evolving and adapting to the needs of the mother and the fetus. This chapter gives an overview of the current practice and the latest developments in this area. We discuss different neuraxial techniques, specific changes in anatomy, modes to maintain analgesia during labor, and which drugs to use. Also, we provide an overview of the complications and offer some practical tips to improve success using these techniques.
