Abstract
Embedded image processing systems are becoming popular in our daily life. Therefore, we will cover basic digital image processing concepts in this chapter. The aim here is informing the reader about the potential of Arm® Cortex™-M microcontrollers in image processing operations. Therefore, we will start with the fundamental definitions in digital image representation on Arm® Cortex™-M microcontrollers. Then, we will explain image transfer between the PC and STM32F4 microcontroller. We will next focus on digital cameras and their usage. Then, we will consider the digital camera interface module available in the STM32F4 microcontroller. These will lead to image acquisition via digital camera. In the final part of the chapter, we will introduce pixel-based digital image processing methods implemented on the STM32F4 microcontroller. Throughout the chapter, we will provide C, C++, and MicroPython language-based usage examples on the explained concepts.
