Abstract

This paper describes a proposal for the development of Professional Ethics and Social Responsibility in the field of computer engineering, with the aim of contributing with a plan for concrete action to the general discussion space that is being addressed by the academic about the social role of technologies in our time. A model based on competency-based training is proposed to develop these essential concepts in the computer scientists’ professional training among programs within interdisciplinary areas so that they allow the development of Professional Ethics and Social Responsibility through a natural link with the technical tools and methods of the discipline itself. A computer engineering program is taken as an example and the project proposal is described based on objectives, courses, learning results and methodological strategies to create an experience related to Professional Ethics and Social Responsibility for students through studied cases of real problems that are analyzed within the specific technical field and the inherent social field.
