Abstract
The paramount importance of the therapeutic relationship for a positive therapy outcome supports the theory that healing is primarily a holistic process from within, in which nature restores its regulatory capacities in the protective space of insightful, loving affection. Disorder-specific therapy typically plays a supportive and stabilising role in this regard. If a symptom is viewed as a consolidation of the relevant, troubled problem area and accordingly re-interpreted, the meaningful part of the excluded aspect can help to find the path to a solution. The development of a therapist’s personality and the ability to facilitate emotionally corrective experiences are two additional cornerstones.
Psychotherapy is a field with encounters on multiple levels: not just encounters between people who come to enter a more coherent and healing state of organisation with the help of psychotherapy. In the background, the natural sciences also encounter the humanities, social sciences and cultural sciences; a highly meaningful match concerned with the essence of human existence.
