Abstract

This chapter outlines analogies for several ophthalmological conditions, such as astigmatism, blepharitis, cataract, conjunctivitis, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, dry eye, and strabismus. An interesting dynamic exists for ophthalmic patients: their vision is of utmost importance to them, yet the usually asymptomatic progression of disease and perceived triviality of topical medications means they are less likely to follow medical advice. For this reason, readers should stress the complications presented in an analogy if advice isn’t followed and correct misconceptions by exploring the analogy with the patient as an active participant.
